On Friendship

Monday, May 23, 2011

I came home the other day to a package in the mail. I assumed it was for Wes, because he recently spent our life savings on textbooks for his summer classes. {JUST kidding, hubs. All you ever buy are books. It's okay.} But it wasn't for him after all -- it was for me!

My dear friend Katy sent me a little pick me up. Two diet cokes {mailed from California, people!} & the s w e e t e s t card letting me know that she was thinking of & praying for me as I dealt with the decline of my precious Grammy.

It really made my day.

And it made me want to get back in the habit of doing that for other people -- just taking the time to let them know I care. And let's be honest -- isn't it always so much fun to get something in the mail? You know, besides bills & coupons you don't want {I'm talking to you, ValPack}.

Katy, thank you for your thoughtfulness, kindness, and friendship, even from miles away. {It's funny to type "miles" to you when that's the name of your son. Just so you know.} And thanks for, albeit unknowingly, challenging me to be that same kind of friend, too.

Think where man's glory most begins and ends,
And say my glory was I had such friends.

Katy! I just heard about this on the radio. Send me a diet pepsi next time. It will be cheaper. ;)
